Every once in a while, I will stumble upon a restaurant that just gets it. The owners of these restaurants clearly understand that the key to a great restaurant is great food and a comfortable atmosphere. Tucked away in the heart of Ludlow's Lamere Square is a restaurant that very simply serves the best homemade chicken soup I have ever tasted. The Art of the Chicken Restaurant in Ludlow, Vermont, is simple, affordable, charming and most of all, delicious. My meal began with Nick's homemade chicken rice soup served by Nick himself--a New Jersey native who personified the laid-back image of Vermont seamlessly. I then tried the generously proportioned Vermont Maple Roasted Half Chicken Dinner, which came with a heaping salad topped with Marlene's Own Maple Mustard Dressing. Nothing beats a salad that was made the moment you ordered it. The red onions didn't even get a chance to infiltrate the other elements of the salad (what a concept). Finally, a slice of Nick's apple pie sent me into a virtual food coma and scored The Art of the Chicken a lifetime customer. Rustic elegance, Vermont charm and great grub that won't break the bank place The Art of the Chicken as my top stop in Ludlow, Vermont. |
